Asia Hands Society is delighted to host Dr. Kumudu Gunasekara in conversation on Thursday, October 6. Dr. Gunasekara is Managing Director of the Asia-Pacific operations of strategy consulting firm Stax, Inc. He will discuss the current political unrest in Sri Lanka, its roots in Sri Lanka’s economic ascension after the country’s civil war, and the effect of China’s investments in Sri Lanka’s infrastructure.
Dr. Gunasekera is a management consultant and strategic advisor to private equity firms, public and privately held corporations, and Fortune 100 global organizations. Prior to Stax, Dr. Gunasekera was a Principal Economist at Parsons Brinckerhoff (now WSP), a leading global infrastructure group, in their Washington, D.C offices. Dr. Gunasekera is also the co-founder of Sri Lanka@100 a private sector-led initiative for value creation of mid-sized firms in Sri Lanka. He has also taught as an adjunct professor at Boston University. Dr. Gunasekara earned his Ph.D. in Economic Geography, and a joint M.A. in International Relations and Environmental Policy from Boston University. He has a B.A. in Economics from Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
